Hi there !
Gangotri, close to the source of Ganga (Ganges river) and seat of the goddess Ganga, is one of the four sites in the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. At an altitude of 3,042 m, a Gorkha Commander, Amar Singh Thapa, constructed the temple in the early 18th century AD. The Gangotri temple can be reached in a full day's travel from Rishikesh, Haridwar or Dehradun, or in two days from Yamunotri.

best wishes !

delhi to haridawar by bus or train get a seat on vishwanath bus service opposite the station gate ,avoid the dak sewa bus as it goes too slow, route is -haridawar-rishikesh- -naredernagar-chamba- uttarkashi--gangotri, it takes 12 hours by vishwanath sewa while by dak sewa it will take close to 24 hours night halt at uttarkashi.bus charges are around 150-200/- person all the station have good lodging and boarding facalities.at gangotri stay at sh krishan ashram though other option are available in plenty.gaumukh is 2 days trek from gangotri with night stay at chirbasa which has a ashram for rest ant food at a nominal rate of 190/-day. plan a trek for kedar taal towards south though tough but worth every drop of sweat and effort.can get goinging from gangotri at 6 am in the morning by shared taxi.expence=400/- per day per person as a backpacker. good luck.

It's the source point of the river Gaanga(Ganges in english), the most holy river of the indian sub continent. The sacred place is a pilgrimage for indians of all religions. The approach is one of the most difficult tracking routes, however, gudded tours are being organized. It is in Uttaranchal state of the country.
