Loads of people are raving about it while others think it's a load of rubbish. What do you guys all think of it and did you think the final book was magic or pathetic?

The characters are great. I loved reading about each character's background and learning about their motivations.

The world of the books is interesting and detailed.

The plot is great -- incredibly well structured. And because of the superb characterization, you're always dying to know what happens next. The themes are powerful. I cry at every book I read but these books turn me into a red, puffy mess.

J.K. Rowling writes dialogue like nobody's business. When I read the books, I can really hear the characters speaking in my head.

However, other than dialogue, I don't think the words themselves are very well written. Way too many adverbs, especially after the word "said." Awkward phrasing as well. (For example, she's always writing "he, Harry" when she could just say "Harry" -- drives me bonkers!)

So overall, I love the books, but the editor in me wants to delete/rearrange things when I read them, especially in the descriptive parts.

As for the seventh book, I liked it a lot. I felt satisfied with the ending. No complaints, really. My favorite part was learning about Snape's and Dumbledore's pasts. But yeah, I think the seventh book was an appropriate ending for the series.

*SPOILER*

Part of me wanted Harry to die (for real, not just temporarily or whatever) but Rowling made up for not killing him by naming one of his kids Albus Severus and giving him Lily Potter's eyes.

I thought the series was very well done, and that the last book was the best of the series.

The one fault with DH was that JKR decided to fit it into the pattern of the other books: that it, a full scholastic year. Because of that the "Journey in the Wilderness" lasted too long and could have been condensed, IMHO. Other then that, the final book was great.

LOVE Harry Potter, IMO J.K. Rowlings is an absolute genius!!!! She has the most incredible imagination I've ever come across. I thought that the last book was fabulous!!!! It tied everything together and I liked how they showed that even Dumbledore was flawed and that Love REALLY was the most powerful force of all.

SPOILER

I liked the couplings at the end because Ron and Harry ended up being brothers and Hermione was part of the family as well.

It is pure MAGIC! I really loved it, it was just great! The end wasn't very detailed but it was very neatly wrapped up and nicely done. All in all a truly fantastic book and book series! I really liked the Ron/Hermione romantic parts!
