I hired one last year, if your carpet is reletavely clean to start with its ok but if you have stains you need to get rid of then forget it, it really is not that good, we ended up getting a professional in to clean the carpets, waste of money we thought.

I hired one - very good. Then I bought a Vax Rapid upright which keeps on top of the mess of my little one well!

They hire it out at B&Q, so you could try it first.
