Hi. Recently when I start up my laptop, sometimes the security center and Windows firewall get disabled and I get this balloon saying that my pc is at risk. I cannot enable Win firewall. I get a
message saying that due to an unknown reason my security settings is disabled. I have AVG anti virus and anti rootkit plus spybot S&D. A couple of days ago spybot found something saying that its a virus disabling win fire wall. I removed it and now spybot does not find anything but still 3 out of 5 times I start my pc I have the same prob. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do to fix it? Thanks.

When you have more than one firewall installed in your computer, the firewall "fight" each other and deactivates the other. So it is best to use one that you can depend on. I use norton firewall and not my windows.

Turn off your windows firewall as it is not a true firewall. A true firewall give you two way protection from incoming rogue packets and protects your data from leaving your pc without your permission. Windows is only one way incoming.

Download the free firewall for home personal use: I used for ten years and quite happy. Zone Alarm Free.

Be sure and turn off Windows Firewall in your security control panel.

It seems to be a virus that has done something in your windows firewall and best thing you can do is to do system restore.
