Some people recommend running more than one anti-virus program in the hope that if a virus slips past one program, another will catch it.

If you choose to run two anti-virus programs, only one should be set to real-time or full-time scanning, and the other set for on-demand scans only. This will help prevent system lock-ups and conflicts.

This is ok, and is also recommended. However, you may want to do some extra research first, because some antivirus programs do not work together. One problem I know of involves Norton Antivirus and McAfee. On a Vista if you do a virus scan with McAfee, it will show Norton as a harmful program. It is not harmful, but just a glitch. But having two antiviruses such as Norton and McAfee that don't agree with each other may be harmful. But it is still recommended to have two or more antiviruses.

Two anti-virus programs could lock up your system and do other nasty things. Two spyware programs on the other hand just compliment things.

Just make sure you only have ONE anti-virus program running. As long as the second one is not doing the live protection on your system things should be fine.

It would be recommended to have more than one. What one antivirus doesnt catch, the other will. As is the case with Adaware scanners and spyware scanners. Two is recommended. But having Norton and McAfee together is not a good idea. They dont work well together.
