Because it is based on commission and therefore very competitive. When a person is working to make money and they know they could either make that money or someone else could take it, they will stop at nothing to come out on top. There's your answer. Hope your Mom likes her job.

You can have an office full of agents, but only the ones with closings are getting a paycheck! It's personal competition not competition between offices. And yes, business is business. Are you going to be nice & eat Ramen Noodles so someone else can eat steaks? No. Business isn't personal when it comes to food in your mouth & clothes on your back & a roof over your head.

There are no jobs which are commission only that do not weed out the weak. This is normal. Personally I WANT my agent to be cut throat! This is business, not a place for wimps, the wimps are all poor.

its not a cut throat business if you get your leads from referrals. new agents have it harder but if you have a client base and clients are referred to you its actually allot of fun and offers some of the best work hours and compensation. Like any rookie new agents pay the price of experience

It has nothing to do with greed, its about providing a service and receiving a commission for it. Some are just better than others. Sounds like your mom may be to soft for the biz. You have to be a hard as$ and be able to take rejection, and fellow workers trying to screw you.

simple--there is only a FIXED AMOUNT of real estate, and there will never be any more. It is cut-throat because of greed, greed, and more greed.
