I have a 1992 honda civic lx and it has 126k mi, so i took it to get the timing belt and water pump replaced. But when i got it back, the engine was super loud (like a vacum leak) and there is some pinging when i accelerated from 2.5k to 3.5k rpm. Also, there is this "cricket" noise (from what ive read, i think it might be an ovetighten belt). What exactly is wrong with my car? Do i have to pay to do the whole job again? please help. suggestions are welcomed.

I would say they didn't time the belt correctly.. maybe one tooth off... take it back and make them fix it....

It seems it will come down to how creditable the repair shop is you went to and how well they honor their warranty. A reputable shop will certainly know there's a problem with their repair work and correct it. A dishonest shop will "stonewall" you hoping you'll get tired of debating whose problem it is, yours or theirs. You could use the dealer for a second creditable opinion of what's wrong to use as leverage in revealing the truth. One trick a dishonest shop might use to cover their mistakes is to take it apart again and claim they found some new problem that they can charge you for, when in fact they simply fixed their blunders the second time around and got you to pay for it!

first you cant over tighten a belt most models now use a tension pully, and it sounds like the timing is off, take it back and tell them to fix it right. a car offtime can throw the acceleration and idle out of whack. take it back and make them fix it then never go back there again. lol
