People often say that things or other people are "hopeless". Can you think of reasons this may or may not be so?

Thank you, my friends, Rena, Moon, and Sharizat for starring, I felt this a necessary question to ask with so much hopelessness and negativity in the world today.

Hope is a confident desire. A positive attitude is what is required when one deems for hope. Without it there will be no hope to speak of. You must draw a positive mind wihtin you in order to wish for something to happen. People with negative thinking - will always say there is no hope. You see, if these people have this kind of attitude nothing will happen for negative energies has been planted in their minds. Negative minds don't draw hope.

Great question. Have a great day and God bless!

If I labeled something hopeless it would be because I believed that there was no reasonable chance of the situation or the person ever changing.

Once while riding a bus with a friend in the Philippines I ask my companion why the poor street people were smiling . She replied "because they have no hope-"
They know that this is the way things are for them, it will not change and , they have accepted it.

Most of us on the other hand KNOW that life -things could be better --- we have hope .This can make us happy or miserable .
Attitude makes all the difference .

You know, syntactically speaking, "hopeless" means without hope so saying someone or something is hopeless actually means that s/he or it lacks hope.

The word isn't used that way though, but rather it is used to signify there is nothing for which to be hopeful about said person or thing. Or better yet, that there is no way it will improve or change.

The English language is a wondrous and arbitrary thing.

Hope is something you would take action on. Action, meaning, even staying put, if it means the goal (hope) will happen.

A situation being hopeless - to me it's kinda like why waste my time with it.

When a situation actually becomes hopeless, then, depends on how much a person is willing to put into it, or wait for it. So it's subjective...???...
