Hi, I agree. The job of an umpire is very tough. I used to umpire for some of the matches during my college, and that was very tough. As an umpire, I just needed to stand and concentrate a lot. Need to know all the rules of the game. I had given many LBW decisions which might have been questioned if there was a television. Thankfully, there was no television. I used to feel tired the same way as I used to feel tired after I play a match. Trust me, that is very tough.

Yes it is tough, but they are never the heroes even in their
lifetime. Unfortunately, they have a tough job which needs
knowledge and rules of the game in addition to concentration.
Patience is needed for an umpire to stay all day long outside.
But they are the final authority on a decision as long as they
are within bounds. Close calls are the ones these days that
are tough to handle and with commentators screaming,
makes it much worse and always the Umpires are the villains.
So to a certain extent they have the powers and they can use
it. When certain elements get out of control, like the Hair
did during Eng-Pak series, could cause him loose his job.

Good question by the way.
Yes, there is no doubt about the fact that an Umpire's job is a tough one. They have to keep themselves cool & calm in the heat of the moment. They don't get to play the game. All they have to do is observe it & make decisions.
Today the umpires are under a lot of pressure thanks to the high tech cameras, mic's and other electronical gadgets. On TV we people see 10-12 replays & that too in slow motion. The umpires don't get to see those replays. They have simple human eyes. They have to make a decision on the basis of 1 instant look.
To be quite honest, umpires have done well in cricket in the last 4-5 years. If i am right the percentage of correct decisions in the last 4-5 years has been above 90%. I think this is fine.
I am not against use of technology in big tournaments like world cup but apart from that there is no need to involve to much technology in this game.
Umpires are doing just fine

Thats what they are paid for
they get to watch free test cricket
why dont they use technology to help them although i prefer them not to as umpiring can be exiciting
poor old impires are under a lot of pressure but if its plum then out
if there is doubt people will accept that
they dont have a hawk's eye but they shoudnt do something stupid like no-ball someone for chucking or accuse someone of ball tampering without reason(cough darrell hair)
