The show was Twenty-One with Jack Barry with Van Doren who later testified to House subcommittee that it was a hoax.

6. Don't know the name of the book, but the guy I am thinking of (author) was named Stephenson, I think (?) He encouraged the use of hallucinogens in an effort to get people to do past life regressions.

I was a bit later, than the early 1950" and we did not get TV in South Africa until 1974. Can you believe that!
