Its going to be end of October and rented out upstairs of bar until 10pm so don't want to do anything too crazy because we'll be mixing with the public later at night and people may not want to get dressed up in costume for that reason

it's holloween so tell them its a costume party for the hollywood look, no biggie other folks will understand

I think you should leave the dress code up to them...just remind them on the invite that the theme is Hollywood, and they'll probably come in something sort of glammy.

Quit being such a caregiver and relax.
I assume your inviting "adults" that can figure out their own level of comfort in "dressing -up", besides it's around Halloween and alot of people are out in Costume during that time.

This would imply they could just dress up as maybe Marilyn Monroe would or as a character or in a costume that represents something in Hollywood or a movie.

Ask your guests to get dressed in formal attire as if they were going to the Oscars. Suits and gowns appropriate.

a really nice (speggetty strap) dress with really high heels(u might wanna bring a change) and maybe a wig or a micro phone. and say ur whoever (lisay lohan ect..)
