In the 40's the pompadour was all the rage. We used things called rats to build up the hair. That was in elementary school. Then much later came the beehive. Egads! I had a modified one at one time which came out flat on top and I looked like Frankenstein's Monster. That was fun but it wasn't even Halloween.
I think a lot of women and girls liked June Allyson so much that we all had page boy hair styles at one time or another.

i had a pixie when i was pre-school and wear a modified pixie now. wore a page boy in first grade whereas my mom was wearing a beehive at the time. wore an afro for a while just out of high school (and that looked really dumb on a white chick, but i thought i was 'hip'). ironed my hair to make it straight and wore it parted down the middle when i was going through my 'flower girl' phase. got a gyspy shag when i was doing the disco scene (anyone remember the dance 'the bump'?). had a hair piece for a while when that was all the rage (not a 'fall' but the kind that just added extra poof without having to tease your hair). wore a 'swinger' for a while in 9th grade (where the back is short and the front/sides angle down longer towards your chin. wore the infamous 'dorothy hamil' cut that was popular at the time - probably the most flattering of all the styles i tried over the years. once dyed my hair an electic red and had it all spikey in the back and parted on the side and slicked down in the front. let it grow to my butt once. wasn't much i could do with it then but braid it or let it hang loose - neither of which was flattering. and who could forget the WET LOOK? - which really just made your hair look like it was dirty and oily. have had it as short as less than an inch all over and as mentioned previously, down to my butt, so i guess all that's left to try is BLUE when i get to be a little old lady or shave my head when i get totally disgusted with trying to find a style i actually like ... BTW, it wasn't just fellas who wore duck tails. and what about 'spit curls' and 'finger waves?' YUCK!

I had a hard time, because my hair is curly. But I did my best with a French twist.

I tried to do a flip, but it would only last for the first few hours of the day.

I also did a modified beehive, involving way too much teasing and hairspray.

Also, something frighteningly akin to this:

I would conclude that the woman wasn't very logical. What sort of person would want to go around in high heels while wearing an outfit that doesn't even call for it? I'd conclude that she cared more about fashion than common sense, and would walk right on by.

Short like Audry Hepburn. Is that what you call pixies?

Also beehive. OMG

And in SA, girls wore short hair with ducltails.
I had one, and the nuns told me parents to get it cut off. but my hair was short, with the little ducktail at the back.

Since then mostly long.

When I was a young teen I had a flip, like That Girl did,but mostly I had a beehive. My hair was curley and it took forever to get it into a flip and a beehive, today its short, still curly, and if not for hair color would be all grey. I have no idea if kids today have a hair style except long and straight.

When I was a teenager, it was a ponytail then in the '60s, I was in nursing and we were not allowed to have our hair touch the collar of our uniform. I wore a pixie because it was wash' wear and I could just get up an go to work fast.

Page boy
Flip
mother gave me a Tonette stinky perm, it was so bad that she had to cut it to get rid of the mess, so then it was a "pixie" until it grew back

After then it was long, parted in the middle and straight.

Then there was the "Sassoon" cut where is was longer on one side than the other side and teased on top

When I was in elementry school I wore a page boy. In junior high it was a bubble. High school I adorned the flip!

Lots of seniors still wear bubble haircuts, but they are called something else now. Fun question!

I had the pixie cut for years... and I hated it! I had the page boy and various styles of it. My mom had the beehive. She still goes to the hair dresser once a week to have her hair done. She's had the same lady for 40 years now!
