38 is obviously eve, so 2 is a prime factor of it.

What do you get when you divide 38 by 2?
Answer: 19.

Is 19 a composite?
Well, it is not divisible by 2 (since it is odd);
and 3 is not a factor (since the digits 1+9 add up to 10);
it does not end in a zero or 5, so 5 is not a factor.

Don't bother checking the next prime (7),
since 5 * 5 (=25) is greater than 19.
If 19 has no factors less than 5 then it cannot have any greater than 5.

Therefore, the only prime factors we can find for 38 are
2 and 19.
