I'm pretty sure temperature-wise, it will be ok in the garage, but depending on how cold it gets where you live, it might be a huge hassle to go out there and get it, which may make you put off using it. Also, if you get snow there, it will be a complete pain in the butt getting it in the house and back out.
The basement might be easier or if all else fails, put it in the corner of the room. Noone is going to be shocked to see a vacuum in the corner of a room. We all have them...no need to hide it if you don't have the space to store it. :)

They sell vacuume covers. I just found some on ebay. They look like dolls and the head just sits atop the handle. A dress covers the rest of it.
Some are goofy, but you could come up with your own similar idea. Just using a large enough piece of fabric and put a stretchy ribbon around it would at least disguise it. If ya don't sew see if a king size pillow case would cover it. Maybe find a cheap round tablecloth at a 2nd hand store. I have seen many vac covers at flea markets.
Actually I use mine as a coat rack in a pinch. LOL

I sometimes keep it in the laundry room, others in the hall closet. Right now I have it in one corner of the kitchen, cuz I jus got a puppy lol. But I do try to keep it indoors = ] ppl won't mind seeing your vacuum. I rather see a vacuum in a persons house than go looking for one and not find one haha

I'm way short on closet space, so mine just sits in the corner of a room.
As long as you keep your vacuum clean and dry, I don't see why keeping it in the garage would be a problem. It shouldn't get extremely hot or cold out there (enough to mess the vacuum up, anyway.)

I keep mine in the hall closet. people being in and out should be too much of a worry. I wouldn't keep it in the garage all winter, especially if you live up north. do you have a laundry room? or room in your bedroom closet or possibly a spare bedroom or linen closet?

WE have too much stuff in our closets so we always keep ours out in our garage. We had a REALLY bad Winter last year and it didn't hurt it at all being out there.

I keep mine in the hall closet. I have a coat rack in my entrance way for guests to hang their coats on. Most furniture stores have all sorts of cute furniture that you can buy to hang winter clothes on.
