I'd like to know what kind of weather I can be facing. I'm from Chicago, so I don't mind a bit of chill or snow. Will it be windy in Amsterdam? Does it rain a lot at the end of December?

Basicly, it's cold but bearable. There is chance of rain. Long trousers, good shoes (water-resistant), sweater, gloves and wintercoat - and you'll be ok. Umbrella could be a good idea too. As to fashion, well, it's Amsterdam so you really have to put a fair bit of effort in it to look out of place. Actually, most people wear fairly regular clothes. So whatever you wear in Chicago should be ok here. If you want to check it out: here are some A'dam webcams. :)

The weather in Amsterdam during new year will probably be around freezing point or slighty below but of course extremes are possible in which case it might be several degrees warmer than- or quite a few below freezing point. It will probably rain, hail or snow but snow will very quickly turn to black slush. Good chance of it being windy to very windy, slight chance of storm but no hurricanes or anything like that. Fashion is a lot like in Chicago I guess but will depend more on what social group you're in than on what city. Have a nice new year's! :)

If you dress for Chicago weather at that time of the year you will be comfortable in Amsterdam... it's really cold, snowy and rainy there in December.

I went to Holland last December.
You know the skinny jeans + knee-high boots that girls are wearing nowadays? I actually saw that look in Europe before it crawled over here to the States. That's probably what they'll be wearing this winter too. Also those trenchcoat/winter coats are looking pretty nice. Have fun in Amsterdam!

It could be cold and/or rainy, I was there 10 thru 20 December.
