Somehow, there hasn't been another successful attack on the US after 9/11.
By helping 2 countries formerly ruled by dictatorships, to begin democracy, he has begun to develop democratic allies in crucial parts of the world.
He has presided over a reform of our intelligence agencies, allowing them to work together when needed.
He has helped increase awareness that the US has enemies who want to harm our citizens.
He has attempted to maintain good relations with bordering nations, to help assure that they will not later join forces with our enemies.

Well, to be fair, he has given us some belly-laughs with his inept mangling of the English language, he has probably caused a few life-long Republicans to want to vote the Democratic ticket next time, and he has made Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert major stars.
