I'm going to Vegas and I plan on booking my room next month. I don 't want to spend a lot on one since I'm not going to be in it that much, but I want one in a good spot. Here is what I narrowed it down to:

Harrahs
Imperial Place
Excaluber

If you had to pick which one would you choose and why?

Las Vegas has MANY hotels to choose from. Don't limit yourself to a list as you will, most likely miss out on a better deal. The 3 hotels you mentioned, Harrah's is a good, centrally located hotel. It does need updating however. IP is just OK. It's an older, small casino/hotel and in desperate need of renovations. Excalibur is a large casino/hotel and offers something for those on a budget and is also geared toward those with families (kids), so if that's not your cup of tea... Your best bet is to check out the websites below, do some research and choose the most affordable one for you! Good luck.

don't limit yourself. When it comes time to set the reservation, go with the cheapest of the good hotels. After all, you won't be spending that much time in the room. Make sure the hotel is of the level you want, by all means, and make sure that certain amenities are also available, but when in Vegas, most good hotels are all the same.

Story: I had to go to vegas for a wedding. Couldn't afford a lot but I called the Travel Agent and told them our budget. They put us at the Westward Ho (recently closed, boo hoo) Though it was not of the same level at Ceasars or the Imperial, or even the Luxor, we had a fantastic time. We got a great deal, the staff was friendly and the rooms clean and well furnished. We would go back there in a heartbeat if they hadn't closed it and torn it down. I tell y ou this story as a way of pointing out that the NAME doens't mean a thing in Vegas. Go with the best VALUE.

I took my first trip to Vegas just over a year ago, and I had no problem spending big on a hotel even though I'm generally pretty broke. I thought I might as well splurge on my first trip there. For a nice hotel based on what you narrowed down to, I would say Harrah's.

I had friends that figured as you did that they wouldn't spend much time in their room other than to sleep, so they stayed in a cheaper hotel. I will follow their example next time now that I had my 1-time splurge. The best cheap hotel right on the strip in the middle of it all is @ Casino Royale. Best part about it is that it's right next to Denny's for when you want a snack before going to bed @ 6AM.

I found a great deal at the Imperial Palace..I am going to stay there in November. They have this thing called the Casino Gold Special... http://www.imperialpalace.com/stay.php?subid=8&contentid=284 it has alot of extras and a delux upgraded room for like $65 a night (week nights) and it is right between Harrahs and Flimingo and across from Cezars. Looks like the best deal on the strip.

Have you considered Bill's gambling hall & hotel?, formerly known as The Barbary Coast. It is located on the strip between the Flamingo & Balley's. Across the street is the Bellagio, Ceasars Palace,it is basically right in the middle of the strip. If you go on monday thru friday the room rate is about 69.00 a night. On weekends all the hotels are twice as much. This is a small casino/hotel but has 2 great restaurants & the rooms are decorated in Victorian Style, and clean. Can't miss on this hotel/casino as I have been going there for the last 16 years.

I didn't love our room or our bed at Excalibur (it was just OK), but I do love the location and it has a nice casino. You can get to MGM, New York-New York, Luxor and Mandalay Bay without going out in the street at all. There are walkways between all of them. I love all of those casinos, so for me it wasn't a big deal that it was closer to one end of the strip rather than in the middle. My husband stayed at Imperial Palace with a bunch of guy friends and they hated it (very dated, uncomfortable. I have no experience with Harrah's. Sometimes New York and Luxor are priced on the lower end, and if they are I would rather stay there than Excalibur, but of the three you mentioned, my pick would definitely be Excalibur.

Of those 3, absolutely Harrah's. It's right in the middle of the strip. The Imperial Palace is a really old run down place. Excalibur is a good location - central to several other hotels, but definitely closer to the 'end' of the strip ... but it tends to be one of the more "family friendly" places.

All 3 have there good points. The only one that I've stayed at has been the Excalibur. It was shortly after it opened so it's been a while.

I have heard that they have done some updating, and it's a fun atmosphere. It is fairly far down at the end of the strip so that is one draw back. But you'll walk anyway so it doesn't much matter.

Harrahs is in the middle but I haven't been in there at all.

I just stayed at the Imperial Palace like 3 weeks ago. It was really comfortable, the employees were extremely nice and helpful and I stayed in this room with a beautiful view of the Strip.

I would stay at the Excalibur because I have kids. It is much more fun to stay at a place that has a theme. Excalibur's theme is midevil. Have you ever seen the dragon show outside the hotel? Also, there is a great steak/prime rib house inside. Get the King Arthur cut.
