The Houston Texans have a great franchise name, but to be honest, it doesn't compare with the great tradition of the Oilers. Which would you rather have, the navy bull mascot with the Texas flag -OR- the great red, white, & blue oil derrick logo? Houston TEXANS or Houston OILERS?

Me? I wish they'd go back to the Oilers. The Oilers conjure up memories of Bruce Matthews, Warren Moon, & Earl Campbell. The Texans conjure up memories of passing up on Reggie Bush and an organization banking on the breakout of tailback Dominick Davis.

Dude, I have to go with the Oilers. They were quite a team back in the day. And Jerry Glandville? He was more entertaining to watch than the games sometimes. They allowed him to wear a mic (just once!) on HBO's "Inside the NFL" and he was a stone gas.

(I know I'm telling my age w/ those details, but that's ok).

They could not go back to being the Oilers unless Bud Adams gave up his right to the team name. Even though the Oilers became the Titans, they are still considered to be the legacy of the old Oilers franchise. They even retired Warren Moon's number in Nashville last season, even though he never played a single game there.

It's legal stuff, but it stands firm.

The Texans could be in any city (it's a generic name).. the Oilers reflected the city's wealth and industry.. as long as they changed the powder-blue uniforms, they should have kept that name -- and should change the name now, back (I agree). But, the longhorn logo cost $$$ and so will all the revisions etc. etc. (and they may say that the demographic that even knows who the Oilers were, is too old blah blah blah).

PS -- Say hello to Dan Pastorini..

Dude: Warren Moon? How about Dan Pastorini and BIG Earl Campbell on the big screen???? Bum Phillips wearing his lid in the House of Pain and vowing to "kick the door down" on the Steelers next year after the refs cheated them (Mike Renfro dragging a foot in that snowy end zone) in the AFC Championship game. I grew up watching the Oilers in the old Astrodome and also went to the very first Texans game in the new field. To me, the Oilers are still the best thing that happened to Houston in terms of pro sports. The only thing that I didn't like about the Oilers was that goofy fight song that owner Bud (hole) Adams made the dome people play....now THAT was awful. Oilers win. Thanks for asking.

"Were the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers #1!". I loved that song, and I loved their uniforms. And I LOVED Earl Campbell - The Tyler Rose! The Steelers should have one less Super Bowl Because Mike Renfroe caught that pass and the Oilers beat the Steelers in that Championship game!!!!!
Luv ya blue!

Oilers...most of us already know that Houston is in Texas anyways. It's not too original to be named after a state. They might as well call my favorite team the San Francisco Californians, too.

Yeah, I used to love watching the Steelers stomp the crap outta the Oilers. I don't think Campbell's ribs have healed yet from the hit Donnie Schell laid on him. What bad call? Bum was right, the road to the Super Bowl goes thru Pittsburgh, then & now!
