I think you may be confused. There are the Irish Guards, which is a regiment mostly made up of Irishmen, but you don't necessarily have to be Irish to be a guard. But don't confuse the Irish Guards for a regiment from the Republic of Ireland. The Irish Guards make up part of the component of the Household Guard. There are a number of elements to that - people forget that about 20,000 soldiers are stationed within blocks of the Palace.

The infantry regiments that form the guard for the Queen are those that make up the Brigade of Guards - the Coldstream, Grenadier, Irish, Scots and Welsh Guards.

The Irish Guards is one of two purely Irish regiments, the other is the Royal Irish Regiment. They recruit Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland and take volunteers from Eire. The Irish Government allows its citizens to serve in British regiments but Britain cannot actively recruit in Eire.

depends where she is at any giving time
she's protected by irish fusillers while in residence in london also welsh grenadeer guards and household cavelry
if in balmoral it's the scots blackwatch guards
if at holywood house it back to the irish fuseliers .
the royal family are also protected by a myriad of other special agencies such as special branch mi5 & mi6 as well as police protection .
then again you can ask same question of your own leader the president why the heck should the fbi, cia , and other agencies provide their services
