If we were not so soft our government would have to listen! let me give you an example. Firstly council tax its disgustingly expensive but if we all stopped paying it and i mean everybody in the entire country what can they possibly do arrest and send everyone to jail? i think not, that would make them stop and think! why do you think petrol is so expensive here yet so cheap in america i'll tell you why because i have been told this off an american that came to my work place as an advisor his statement was the us government know that they would be marched upon by the american people if they put the price off fuel up so guess what they dont do it! but over here we whine and moan but we dont have the guts to do anything about it and, labour know this so they keep robbing us blind with taxes. If we all stood together they would have to listen but sadly it will never happen because, there is too many spineless people who wont stand up for their rights. Dont vote that would make them think.

I totally agree with you.
This also goes for Africans...If we would all stand together, we could stop others from ripping us off and keeping our continent poor.

Council tax is important how else would you fund the police, the refuse collections, street lighting local roads etc, it all comes from the council tax. So if we decided not to pay, yes we could all be sent to prison, but in reality we would live in rat infested streets with no lighting and no law and order. So I guess it is good to pay up and if you don't like the way the council uses your money, vote them out or stand for council yourself and you decide how the tax is spent. Yes being taxed isn't great but look at what it provides and think could we do without it.

Hmmm... well there was massive public protesting about the Poll Tax and look where that got us.....Council Tax, an even more unfair system of taxing us!!!!
I agree we should all stand up and be counted but there's so many things that need changing where do you start? Council tax?, Pensions?, the NHS?, the 'war' on terror?, stealth taxes?, animal rights?
plenty of people do still protest but the laws clamping down on protests have made it virtually impossible to organise anything big in the way you want to. and it would be hard to persuade a whole nation not to vote!

As much as some people would turn in their graves, this country would be a much better place if we took a leaf or three out of the Americans books. They might not be a shining light in the world right now but they do have a lot to teach us ie. law enforcement, prison systems, etc and sooner or later this government is going to be a little bit more than sorry when they realise it.

I heard say that US government heavily subsidizes petrol. In my country we pay additional for petrol in order to subsidize other forms of fuel. This really makes petrol very expensive here.

Amen! This American agrees! And then you've let them take all of your guns too! So now they have all of the power and you will all go like good sheep to the death camps when they finally do away with the facade of elected government!!
You know, losing your Empire was one thing. After all why should you tell other people what to do! But the generation now in Britain is such a bunch of lemmings that I'm sure old Winston and Queen Victoria and Wellington are rolling over in their graves at what namby-pambys their descendents have become!! You might think the American people are nasty but that's what it takes to keep the *ssholes in charge from walking all over you!! Frankly, I think we need to be even more mean and strict with our government but as far as you guys go, I've lost just about all hope! God help all of you!

why do you think petrol is so expensive here yet so cheap in america.
--------------------------
Actually it's their completely different tax system that does that.
I agree though, Britain has become a nation of people who like to whinge about how bad things are but are too fat and lazy to do anything about it.
