Many Moons by James Thurber. A Caldecott winner. It has always had a very special place in my heart.

I also love The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and Circus Mc Gurkus. Although I despise The Cat in the Hat. What was he thinking writing a book about kids home alone letting a stranger into the house??

My son's favorites were always The Monster at the End of This Book (I must have read it a million times to him) Mr Brown's Magnificent Apple Tree and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

Favorite book I read as a child was "Watership Down." I loved it so much I started copying it out by hand. I read it again 25 years later and found I could put the book down and recite upcoming paragraphs out loud.

Second favorite book I read as a child was "King of the Wind," by Marguerite Henry. This is the ultimate horse story ... with a lot of humanity in it, too.

Best children's book I've ever read? "Weslandia" by Paul Fleischman (I think).

Second-best children's book: "A visit to William Blake's Inn," can't remember the author.

Oh boy.

"Inkheart" by Cornelia Funke

"The Thief Lord" by Cornelia Funke

"Whirligig" by Paul Fleischman

"Skellig" by David Almond

Anything and everything by Lloyd Alexander, but especially the Westmark trilogy.

"The Cockatrice Boys" by Joan Aiken

"Inkheart" is probably the hands-down favorite, though. But "Westmark" is a close second.
