Hi MalteseLover, I'd guess that the spotting is due to the hormonal changes going on.

I went through the same type of thing, an ongoing period for about a month, saw the doctor and was told the answer was to get a hysterectomy. I wouldn't do that until I had exhausted all other options so it was back home and back to researching things that could help.

What I came up with was so simple and it worked.

Chlorophyll helps regulate a womans cycle. Just take it each morning when you get up, with a glass of water. So simple

It worked like a charm. I encourage you to give this a try, see if it will work for you. Just google Chlorophyll and see all the benefits it provides, one of the real positives for me is that chlorophyll helps the body process iron more efficiently.

You can buy chlorophyll at any health food store and it's quite inexpensive.

yes it is a hormonal disbalance due to menopause.
Eat tofu it has progesterone; and you have a lack of it now, omega 3, and flaxseed two large spoons, first thing in the mornning with your breakfast. I recommend you take it with water and wait ten minutes to have your breakfast.
Exercise and try to avoid red meat the most, take fiber and have a healthy diet, avoid eating things with fat.
Try to have a healthier life and diet it will help you lots.
(mu avatar is very like yours:)

Good luck! ;D
