Transfering large files will consume alot of bandwidth for a long time. Wireless is basically a shared network so any other application you try to use while transfering will go slow or crash, until the transfer is completed

I have a wireless laptop in the living room that I have connected to my tv. I can play movies from my network thru the laptop via wifi but it is slower and frequently hangs for a second or two.

So I sometimes move the laptop to the computer room and transfer the movie with a cat 5 cable to the laptop and then play it without pauses.

If you don't have security enabled on the wireless network, then somebody might be able to capture the file. If the wireless network is older (802.11B) it might take awhile.

Other then that, there is no reason.

Trust me - wireless networks are about to take over;) Soon even the largest Enterprise class switches will be wireless.

well other than the fact of your router going down, it's not a problem at all. data transfers use tcp/ip protocol which has delivery garauntees.
