X - 4(8 - 4X)
X - 32 + 16X
-32 + 17X

Notice the - sign before the 4. That distributes when you expand 4(8 - 4X), negative times positive you get the - 32. Now -4 times -4X you get +16X

x-4(8-4x)

Reorder the polynomial 8-4x alphabetically from left to right, starting with the highest order term.
x-4(-4x+8)

Multiply -4 by each term inside the parenthesis.
x+(16x-32)

Since x and 16x are like terms, add 16x to x to get 17x.
17x-32
