We have a front load washing machine and when we put a load of towels in they come out stinking! So we rewash them again and they still smell a little bit. So we tried putting a smaller load of towels in and it still didn't work. But if we mix like a few white towels with white clothes it comes out clean. What could be causing this? Any suggestions?

The funny thing is that just the towels are having that problem. Everything else is coming clean.

It sounds like you need to wash/rinse your front loader. Usually this is done on a monthly basis with a vinegar mixture and hot water. you dont add any clothes just run the machine with the mix. refer to your manual for specific instructions for your machine (you didnt tell us what kind of front loader you have) - also, when you are not using the washer, keep the door open, this will allow it to dry out and not get musty. Make sure you dry out the rubber gasket between the door and machine frequently because water residue will stay in there -
The towels might not be drying properly - if they are at all damp, they get musty more quickly - sometime the auto sensor on the dryer doesnt give enough time to dry the clothes/towels.

Is the smell musty? If it is, then I would suggest running the washing machine through a regular cycle with no clothes in it and fill the bleach dispenser with bleach. Some front loaders, like the the whirlpools suggest that you run a cycle like this with only bleach on a regular basis. Check your manual. Also there is a rubber boot that surrounds the door opening, this should be wiped down with bleach as well.

Front loads use less water so therefore you need high consistency HE detergent and more than normal to break the enzymes and grime and dirt, since there is less water usage.
I always put a full load of towels with a full cup of detergent. I always use dry detergent too. The liquids mix at the beginning, even if you are prewashing. Meaning, if you are pre-washing with liquid detergent, the main detergent mixes in at the prewash cycle. This only happens if you are using liquid detergent with prewash option, and in the main wash the load is only spinning with water. So either do not prewash with liquid, or use dry detergent not liquids.

Put in one cup of plain white vinegar in with the soap in the dispenser. I have the same problem in my regular washing machine unless I use the vinegar. They come out of the dryer smelling like my dryer sheets.

strange isn't it?? - try increasing the water temp or just use a different cycle all together.
I don't use the towel cycle on mine cause I feel the same way
