Is it true that this is the kiss of death for Boston? Apparently there is some historical truth to being on the cover and winding up losing. Anyone know?

The "SI Curse" is supposed to apply only to the team pictured on the spring training or season preview issue.

This silly curse (aren't they all?) got significant purchase when SI put the Indians (specifically, Joe Carter and Cory Snyder) on the 06-April-1987 issue, with the text:

Indian Uprising
Believe it! Cleveland Is The Best Team In The American League

Six months later...

1987 Cleveland Indians: 61-101, seventh (dead last) in the AL East.

Oops.

I've been reading all summer on Answers! about how the SOX are the greatest team ever, with the greatest players ever, Clay Buckholz was gioing into the Hall of Fame, blah, blah, blah. Now you're worried about a magazine cover. I live in the midwest in Illinois, but if I had to choose between the SOX or Yankees, I'd root for the Yankees in a heartbeat. You Red Sox fans are beautiuil !

the cover has led to a few demises, i don't think it is a curse just bad writing, if SI picked the team that was not going to fail they would not look like a curse. Poor judgment by SI staffers. (pap on the cover, just another example of bad decisions)

There was never a curse of the bambino, that was a made up load of crap by red sox fans so they had something to blame for their loosing ways. it could not have been an actual curse, curses never end.

Red Sox don`t need to be on a cover to get the kiss of death, they have Manny R. for that.

WOW, the sox need a win tonight and tomorrow to clinch the division or a win and a Yankees lose, I don't possibly see how they could lose there division.

A magazine cover doesn't mean anything.

As a sox fan, I think we all, in massachusetts anyways, stopped believe in superstitions and curses after the 'curse of the bambino' was broken in 2004. we dont need luck, we have big papi, manny, papelbon, lowell, varitek, schill, etc etc etc
