Yes. Spybot does a decent job and is the best freeware but I would also use other anti spyware programs in conjunction with it. Do I trust it? I actually do not trust any of them to be 100% reliable and neither should you. Even the retail programs still won't catch every type of spyware/exploit available so use at least 2 or 3 different ones for best results. Just remember to update it regularly so it can identify the latest threats.

Spybot is an AMAZING bit of software BUT it is so good that you have to watch what it picks up because in some cases it may pick up things that you may want to keep... Mainly just be careful and look through the results before you blindly hit the remove button :)

I have used it for years and it seems to clean up the bad stuff. When my computer isn't cooperating or is taking too long I run spybot and sure enough, there will be some cookie mongers or something put in there. When they are gone, all is well again.
I also have Evidence Eliminator and Ad-aware.

It does a useful job. It's useful to have a filter to keep spyware out and a scanner to check whether any got past. Spybot does the second job very well.

You can trust it, but don't rely on it-and-it-alone! Get others. Add ad-aware (Lavasoft). And just yesterday, AVG came out with a freebie called AVG anti-spyware (http://www.grisoft.com) that I'm trying, so I'm trying it: I have their anti-virus and am happy with it, so you can take my word on it or ignore it as you wish...

I've used it for a long time and I like it. It's free to begin with and I've never had any problems with it at all - unlike other like programs.
