I was just wondering because now Monks are being slaughtered in Burma while Beijing having the power to stop it does nothing.

Has China done something recently to offend us?

Once again: The Olympics were intended to be the ONE place where political, cultural, religious differences were set aside by EVERYONE to celebrate athletic achievements from across the globe.

I do not believe any nation should "boycott"; the Olympics are absolutely not the venue to make such a statement, and doing so sullies the country that boycotts, not the other way around.

Under no circumstances should an Olympics ever be boycotted for any reason. Listen, I'll repeat myself sort of. ANY REASON TO BOYCOTT AN OLYMPIC GAMES IS A STUPID, STUPID REASON!!!

The world does not give a damn about the statement a country is making by boycotting the Olympics. The Olympics are the last bastion of common ground we have between countries. To boycott them not only makes the boycotters look like fools, but all it does is screw athletes out of a chance to compete in the one sports meet they have trained all their lives, with their blood, sweat, tears and money to compete in.

Just ask those who lost their chance to compete in the 1980 Olympics in Moscow because of JIMMY'S temper tantrum over something to do with grain.

I really don't know why we would, but we would really be in trouble if they decided to boycott us.
Where would we buy our lead-based painted toys? All of the manufacturers are in China. Where would we get our poisonous toothpaste? The only toothpaste -made- (not just distributed) in the USA is Aquafresh and Tom's. All of our penicillin and a third of our Tylenol are manufactured there. People could die........in pain. The amount and scope of imports from China are staggering. Our store shelves would be bare. Look at labels, if it doesn't say PACKAGED or MADE IN THE USA, it's probably from China.
Many of our congressmen are trying to make it illegal to display the "made in the USA" claim. They are afraid people won't want to buy certain imported products (food, medicine, pet food) if they are made in China. So if they do away with all the labels, nobody will know where anything is from.

No, the Olympics are for the athletes and the Chinese, are not my favorite government in the world, are tying to put their best foot forward. This maybe a stepping stone for the future of relations between them and the world. Lets see what happens.

Yep, but it wont happen. Our gov't doesnt have the balls to do something like that to China. But yes, it should be done alongside a boycott of all Chinese products and the gov't announcing that theyre going to help recreate US manufacturing to make up for what they did to our country.

NO. It's stupid to boycott just because it's in China...
If we do than we can't be buying things from China also.

Either do something all the way or not

There used to be a time when our country boycotted tyrants and human rights abusers. Now we try to outdo their tyranny and human right violations with our own, and we willingly accept their invitation to olympic games.

Why? Boycotts simply show arrogance and hurts the athletes who have dedicated their life to winning medals for America.

Why? It proves nothing. We did in the 80's. Nothing was accomplished. Why not go to them and kick the crap out of all the other nations?
