I quit smoking at 25 weeks. Do you think my baby will be okay? Her birthweight at 24 weeks, was right where she should be, as far as length, gestational age, etc. I worry that even though I stopped my baby will have a nicotine addiction at birth??

I quit smoking when I found out I was pregnant. Found myself smoking about 3 or 4 cigs a week from about 13 weeks till 25 weeks, then I quit. I was stupid to start, but I stopped!

Try not to worry, and pat yourself on the back for quitting!

It gives the baby a better chance if you don't smoke at all, but the fact that you did quit for your baby is wonderful!!

Your baby will not have a nicotine addition at birth, that is 16weeks away, by then the nicotine will be completely out of the baby's system.

Congratulations! I am proud of you! Quitting smoking is hard!

They always have A LONG list of things women should NOT do while pregnant. I've spoken to several Doctors candidly about this and they all say that as long as you aren't smoking a pack a day there should be NO long term effects on your baby. The only difficulty with smoking is low birth wieght.
It is easy to worry about things like this when you are pregnant and with all the people around that like to criticize pregnant women for nearly everything they do!!! The stress about whether or not your baby is damaged by smoking is more dangerous than the actual smoking!!!!

Nicotine addiction at birth is unlikley, however smoking can cause many other birth defects. I don't mean to scare you but my aunt smoked with all 4 of her children, they all have problems... From eyesight to heart problems. I also have a friend who smoked with her 1st pregnancy, and her child has mental development issues. Hopefully you quitting will avoid all of these issues (and good job quitting!!!! keep up the good work.) You can probably find a lot more about it online, also you can ask your doctor if there is anything you can do to help curb any side effects. Good luck.

i think it all depends on how much you smoke daily... a friend of mine smoked a pack a day and her baby was at very low birth weight... her baby is now a year and a half and only in 18 month clothing...so shes still really tiny... my other friend on the other hand smoked like 3 er 4 ciggs a day and her baby is perfectly normal... good luck hope everything works out and congrats on quiting and on your new baby to be!!

first of all-congrats for quitting. that must've been hard. if you measured ok at 24weeks sounds like you are safe. the risk for smoking is more low birth weight type problems mostly. they baby won't be addicted to nicotine. keep up the good work. there are plenty of people who smoke their entire pregnancy and delivery beautiful, healthy babies.

No, the baby should be fine. As long as her growth was right on track at that point. The baby will not be addicted to nicotine at birth.

it's hard to say, there is a reason they don't want you to smoke while pregnant, but sometimes babies are fine. sometimes there may be an issue. but atleast you were able to quit! remember that back in the 50s and 60s mom's were still smoking throughout there pregncy! (not that i'm saying you should go by that!)

All I can say is to request extra sonograms for birth defects. You smoked during a crucial time during your pregnancy, the first 12 weeks...don't mean to scare you. I am not 100% sure if my mother smoked when she was carrying me (heavy smoker) but me and my 2 sisters are fine in our adult age.

I know people who smoked throughout their entire pregnancy and did not have one complication with their child ever. Good thing you stopped. Congrats! How did you do it? I'm 10 weeks and craving it and trying really hard not to have one.

Of cause, and enjoy. Woman can go one way or the other, love it and want it all the time to, not interested and fell they cant whilst they have a little one growing in their belly. You one of the lucky ones hey and grab each moment possible as once baby arrives you could feel a wee bit different.
