There is always an upside. Maybe fearing everything from toys to clothing will curtail some of the wild consumerism in this country.

My kids have an appointment to get their lead tested at the doctors because 99% of the toys that we 'owned' were from China and yes my kids have sensory issues, ADHD, eating problems, and developmentally delayed. I have 4 kids in my house right now (foster parent) and they all have issues that high lead readings can cause so I am having them tested! Maybe this is the answer to why my kids are always coming up with a new diagnosis and a new disorder~China is killing them!!!

The problem with manufacturers from this region - China, Taiwan, Vietnam and the like is they don't care. It's all about the quantity produced, not the quality of the product itself. And it is in a serious state now as products one after another being recalled or banned from the market. They are not worried about cost of labor, they have endless supply of workforce.. And the fact that big companies redirecting their manufacturing plants to these countries are not helping either. To name one product or brand that were not produced in China is almost impossible nowadays. From Nike shoes to Timberland boots, from Mattel to Toys R Us - all made in China or Taiwan or Vietnam. Sometimes I came across products which material was made in the USA or any other country BUT assembled and packaged in China. Even my cell phone part is made in China:( Ice creams that I eat comes from Thailand, as if my country is not capable of making our own ice creams!! There's nothing much we can do, I guess, except stop buying things that come from the mainland although that sounds almost impossible too.

I heard on the news of another recalled item from China. That is the Play land? It's a play pin with a changing table on top. I heard that the babies can choke on the strap that attaches the table to the play pin. I am really starting to question all things made in china. I know that it would be very hard and maybe expensive to purchase things made in the U.S, but don't you think it's better to support our country and give the jobs back to our people?

I never wanted to buy from China. Japan either. I am a firm believer of Buying American if at all possible. Especially big ticket items like cars. Foreign countries don't give US any breaks when we try to export stuff to them but we give them all the breaks in the world. Doesn't seem fair!

I am giving my granddaughters books this year! Oboy! And gift cards so their parents can help them pick out safe toys.

China is getting too big. I think we will have to watch them and - NO, I wouldn't buy anything from China, but it's very difficult to NOT buy Chinese as almost everything, including things we are quite capable of making in the UK is made in that country.

Buy from China? NO! As a matter of fact I am thinking about throwing away 90% of my kids' toys because of it. That is scary as hell.

Considering that some of the recalls are due to problems of engineering design MADE IN THE US, I wouldn't use this as a reason to completely abandon Chinese trade.

Like anything else, you get what you pay for. The same can be said about American (or any other country's) manufacturers.

How many children have died due to these problems? How many children have died due to lead paint on American household walls DURING THE SAME PERIOD?
