her cell account was with at&t...yesterday i called to cancel it, explained to the woman the situation...gave her the information she needed...she either kept referring to me by my mother's name (which i corrected each time), or telling me that she was sorry that my 'grandmother' died...i was so irritated with her...and to top it off, when she was finally done she goes ok, i've canceled her account...i have your address...there is still a balance of $66, would you like to pay for this now?

i swear...i was so through with this...i payed for it...don't these large corporations cover this?

can you believe this?

First, I'm sorry for the loss of your mother. It's a hard thing that I haven't yet had happen to me.

Companies are not charities. People die every day. Your mother ran up a bill of $66. You should be thankful that they didn't charge a cancellation fee! This is what you call final bills.
Everybody has them. Keep proof of payment along with the account information. Present to the executor of her estate for repayment. If you are the executor, then you just be sure you repay yourself before the estate is finalized and taxed.

I am so sorry for your loss. Big corps dont care if you died, went to space or fell into the ocean, they want their money! There should NOT be any cancellation fees, but only what your mother actually owed prior to her passing away!! So make sure thats only what you paid. To be honest they were more than likely going to get paid anyways. Most the time when a person dies, their family gets stuck with all off their debt which is usually taken care of with insurance money and her estate. When my mother-in-law died, my husband had to deal with her debt and most companies were really good about waiting for payments until after we had the funeral and received the life insurance and her estate was divided between all of her kids. I know its a hard time right now and you will be in my prayers!

I am so sorry about your mother. The next time something like that happens ask to speak with someone else or her supervision. I understand that companies need to be paid but if someone died, how are they going to pay? I know that they can credit accounts for certain situations and that should be one of them. Sometimes companies make a bad time worse, I'm so sorry.

1st of all, I am so sorry for your loss. I know losing a mother could not be easy!

My ex actually is a supervisor at AT&T and he told me of a situation like this where someone had called in and cancelled an account of a deceased person.

They charged the account a fee for not fullfilling a contract, The son of the deceased called back in and complained and they credited the account. Just call them back and tell them the situation Again and you should recieve a credit, If you already paid it you may not get your money back. =(

Yes I can belive it. I am truely sorry for your loss and companies should be able to write that off. However I did receive an email about a credit card company that did pretty much the same thing so you are not alone. Be greatful that you didn't have to pay an early termination fee also.

You can call back and speak with a manager... If they say that there is not one avaliable insist on waiting... Could the 66 be for the remaining bill your mother had? I am so sorry to hear of your loss and I wish you luck

The best thing you can do is get the word out. And you just did. I for 1 will not use at&t. So now they lost your mother's account, yours and mine. The more people who see this the better. They are losing more money by their employees incompetendness than they care to. You should complain to someone at at&t about this. Somebody who cares because obviously that idiot has no idea what she's doing. Thanks for alerting me.

Unfortunately, the next of kin is still obligated to pay for the charges incurred. The only relief you'll get from the company is that nobody will be obligated to fulfill the contract, and there won't be an early termination fee.

Yes I can believe it. People can be so ignorant and insensitive. It seems like " the bottom line " is always most important to anything else. People lack class to a large degree.
My condolances on your loss and hope you have some close family to help one another.
