Hi Terry the "Five boys Chocolate" was made by Frys.
It was launched in 1902 and withdrawn in 1976.
If you remember the 5 Boys picture was featured on the labels and each one had a slogan:
Desperation.
Pacification
Expectation.
Acclamation
Realization--------It's FRYS.

Yes, I do. Several years ago, the wrapper was on the cover of a novel, and I'm racking my brains to remember the book (I worked in a bookshop for 6 years) but it won't come. I remember chocolate and sweets from the 50s and the big jars they used to come in, and they were weighed out. I also remember the scoop and the blue bags that brown sugar was sold in. My mother had an account at the corner shop, she had a hand written order, she gave it in, the shopkeeper made it up, it was delivered, and paid for. Oh how I miss those days ... My mother is dead, the shopkeeper (Mr Marks) is dead, the blind man from the newsagent is dead ... You and I are at the horizon. I hate this age.

Yup. Yummee

The photographs ('Desperation/Pacification/Expectation/Acclamation/ Realisation.... it's Fry") were taken by Messrs Poulton & Son. The model was the photographer's son Lindsay and a rag soaked in ammonia was used to achieve the 'desperation face'.

When Fry's milk chocolate was launched in 1902, the 5 Boys picture was featured on the label and the chocolate became known as 'Five Boys Chocolate'. It retained its popularity until it was withdrawn in 1976.

Tez what are you trying to do to us today? First the cakes and now the sweets. Really whetting the appetite! Not to mention the fact that you are making those of us who remember all these things feel very old!

Not necessarily.... unless that was the one in 5 sections, each of which was a different fruit fondant flavour? I really liked that one.
Cheers, Steve.
