it depends on how many other users are online with that ISP, using those same dial-up connections. Around 3 in the afternoon school lets out and many teenagers get online.

You are using a broadband connection which is like a party line. The more people that are using it in your area the slower it's going to go.
DSL doesn't do that because it is a dedicated connection. However DSL speeds typically have lower ceilings than broadband. Once you know your top speed on DSL it will always run that fast. Often broadband ISP's will offer very high speeds to make up for crowding and usually it will run much faster than DSL. Unfortunately your area must be packed with broadband users.

It is commonly this way because of heavy usage or traffic jam of the internet highway. To avoid this you can choose to use the net during non peak hours. Alternatively, you could try to check for the connectors of your telephone line. Make sure the connection are good contact as oxidised connectors also contribute to slow connection and hence slow transfer rate.Good luck.

sounds like you have a cable connection. since its a shared connection (meaning the whole neighborhood uses the same lines) this is exactly what happens. try switching to dsl... you get a dedicated line so the connection speed doesnt vary all the time. theres many different pkgs ... i recommend the pro pkg $24.99/mo 3.0 mbps if u get that one u can get a free modem w/ a built in wireless router after rebate. visit att.com/dsl if u decide to go with at&t use referral code mp4341

Internet connectivity is like a highway, there is rush hour and then there are times when its empty. Your speed increases when there is less load at the ISP and decreases when there is more. Change your ISP, this one doesn't use a proper algorithm to counter this effect.

do you have dial up or dsl??anyway what you are having is that more people are 'on' the ethernet at the time you are speaking of,i used to have dial up and the same thing happened to me,so i would get up at 5 am to do my stuff, but if you have dsl you need to report it to your provider, they have to give you the speed you are paying for,it is the law!!!!!but then if you have dial up there is not anything you can do to help, you may cpmplain to your provider and they may can help a little

Whatever connection you're using is getting crowded in the afternoon and evening, more people on, more congestion, slower speeds.
