Haley is right. As far as Notepad is concerned, there is no difference between a .txt and a .html file. HTML is actually just a particular type of text file. If it completely refuses to allow you to save something.html, then just save it as something.txt and change the extension after it's saved.
P.S. Get yerself HTML-kit. It's free, and a whole lot easier to edit HTML in than notepad. I don't write it or own it, just a satisfied user. http://www.htmlkit.com/

Wow, all these diverse answers. Yes, you CAN save a document as an .html file from Notepad. In fact, you can save it as .whateveryouwant from Notepad.
File>Save As
File name: mypage.html
Save as type: All Files
Now, when you click on the new file, it'll be opened by your web browser. If you decide to edit the file again without it opening from a browser:
Open Notepad
Click on File>Open
Files of type: All Files
Find your file and open it up.

Of course not!
Notepad is just a text editor, and saves by default to ".txt".
If you write an HTML file, when it is time to save it, select the option "all file types", and add YOUR extension:
".html" or ".htm" or ".php" or... any other!

Remember to change the Save as type to "All Files" and keep in mind where you saved your file, whether it was in your documents or on the desktop.

You can't save as HTML from notepad. You can save it as a Text file then change the name of the file to use the HTM or HTML file extension.
MyFile.TXT === > MyFile.HTML
