in World war 2, when men where recruited(wich they where in Large numbers) they where normaly Shipped off the same day the graduated. Well, people graduate from these camps in large numbers.(Sometimes hundreds or thousands). And then shipped from one place to another. in one train. Leaving one very crowded train. this was the biggest problem for the russkies in the early days of the war. They had not enough trains to get 2 Million men to the front.(They all joined in rapid succesion). there was bound to be a bit of crowing with Millions of men packed onto a few tracks.

Trains were the main form of transport for moving people long distances but in war there were delays caused by bombing and lack of maintenance.

Millions of troops were being moved around the world, and trains were often the best way to do this. The railroads were never meant to accomodate so much traffic, and there were inevitable delays.
