Yes you should because you a)never know who handled all the clothes and where they have been prior to being on the rack and b) you never know what chemicals or anything are in the clothes that might irritate baby's skin for example fromt the dyes. ALSO, I reccommend using ALL free and clear. My baby has sensitive skin and the dreft (which has fragrance in it) still irritated his skin. The pediatrician suggested not using dreft at all and using the ALL and that worked much better for him and he stopped breaking out like he was.

best wishes!

I did because I was trying to follow all the rules. After my daughter was about 6 weeks, I didn't worry so much. They also say for the mother and father to wash their clothes in Dreft too so the baby doesn't have an allergic reaction to the regular detergent. Some people say it's a scam and not a necessity at all. I will probably wash everything in Dreft again with my 2nd baby too.

Some clothes are treated with formaldehyde (the chemical used to embalm people with) so that they stay nice and stiff at the stores, so keeping that in mind, it is recommended to wash all new clothing before you put it on the baby. Also, think all of the people that pick up the clothes to look at, or the little kids that grab things as they walk passed. Germs, germs, germs.

I was never a big fan of Dreft. It didn't get out stains and was waaay expensive. All Free and Clear is a better alternative. Cheaper, and gets stains out better.

When my girls' were born, to tell you the truth, I did not wash anything other than the used clothing and they both lived. They never broke out, either. I also used the regular family detergent. I didn't know what I do now, though. Good luck.

I think its a good idea to wash most clothing before wearing it (including adults) simply because most fabrics have been treated (which is what makes them slightly stiff). However, I think that using Dreft is completely unnecessary! Your baby is going to rub against you all day long, thus rub against your clothes which have not been washed in Dreft. It is better to wash your baby's clothing in the same detergent you wash your clothing in. Only if you notice a rash should you consider switching to a different detergent.

I wash all the clothes, but not in Dreft.

I think it's just marketing and making you spend more money on something that's unnecessary.

Wash baby clothes in regular detergent unless it appears that baby is having a reaction to to it, then switch to something that is free and clear of perfumes or dyes.

I never did. My daughter's Pediatrician and the nurses at the hospital said it was silly. The reason they said this is that mine and my husband's clothes weren't being washed in it and she would have skin contact with our clothes while being held. They said most babies are perfectly fine with even scented laundry detergents and not too worry unless she broke out in a rash. It made sense to me and she's never had a problem. Dreft and other baby detergents are so expensive anyway and I do enough laundry without having to worry about washing her clothes seperately with a different detergent. I use All Free and Clear anyway; it contains no dyes or scents and is safe to use on fire-retardant clothing (most detergents are). I hope this helps, Good Luck!

It's a good idea to wash them since some fabrics are treated with chemicals and others have left-over dyes. You can use a mild soap like Dreft or Ivory or any of the color and scent free detergents. Just make sure to rinse them twice.

I did for the first month or two. Then I found out my husband forgot a couple of times. The kid seemed no worse for wear, so I never did again. Unless your baby has super sensitive skin, there should be no need. Think, do you wash your own new clothes before you wear them? If the answer is yes, than wash the baby's. If not, then you probably don't need to.

I always did and still do before my kids wear them. Only I never used Dreft. Myself and my kids have sensitive skin I just use a detergent that is free of perfumes etc. every brand makes one now.

Yep, you don't know how many people touched them before you brought them home. And Dreft is great for babies, since they have sensitive skin. The great part is, baby clothes are so small, you only have one load to wash!
