OK, this is from my childhood (80's - but I don't know if it was new then). I don't remember much about it, It was a bunch of odd, kindof disturbing stories, with weird illustrations. The only one I remember was about a little boy that was very fat, and something happened, so he went outside and sat and starved until he was thin (I think there is more, but I can't remember). I seem to remember all the pictures being beige-y, but that could just be my memory. It's no the one by Alvin Schwartz. It's driving me nuts!

I wonder if you read a translation of "Der Struwwelpeter", a German book of moral stories. In one of them a little boy refuses to eat the soup he is served and eventually he wastes away and dies.
