Why isn't Iran allowed to possess a bomb?

Many nations are stateing Iran won't be allowed to have a bomb. My Iranian friend asked why the US is allowed and they aren't.
I'm politically ingnorant but would like to provide her with an adequate answer.

The US has had the bomb since the 40's and only used it to stop the most terrible war in history. Oddly enough the use of it probobly saved thousands of lives.
Despite the skirmishes we've been in since then we have never used it , or threatened to use it because our country is run by reasonably responsible individuals whether you agree with them politically or not.
Iran is part of a mid east that has despot after despot running countries with very little value put on a human life if you're considered to be an "infidel"

You are less ignorant than you think. There is only one argument that is seen as valid for a majority of the people in the world: The more nations that have nukes, the greater the likelihood that they will be used, either accidentally or intentionally. This argument works whether we are talking about Iran or Canada or any other country.

Let's look at Pakistan, to expand on this a little. One of their nuclear scientists has been selling nuclear info & technology to the highest bidders for years, which is probably the primary reason why Iran is so close to the ability to build nukes. In addition, Pakistan's political climate is becoming more chaotic every day. While many would like to see their dictator overthrown, it is safer to do whatever is necessary to keep Musharrif in power in order to better insure that the country's nuclear weapons do not fall into the "wrong" hands. Imagine the world panic if the Islamic extremists came to power there. If Pakistan did not have nukes, Mushariff would probably be replaced by a democracy. But because of their nukes, stability is deemed more important than justice for the people. Sucks, doesn't it?

All the arguments we hear about why Iran, specifically, must be denied nukes at any cost have been made before concerning the USSR, China, India, Israel/South Africa, Pakistan, & North Korea. So far, all the doomsday prophets have been shown wrong. So far. That does not mean that in the end, they will not be proven right.

When the first atomic bombs were built, there was a race to be first to complete it.
It wasn't really a race for sport but rather a race for survival.
If the Iranians obtained the bomb, there is no reason to believe it would not be used. They happily explode themselves regularly or assist others in doing so.
If they used one, the response would mean that thousands, if not millions of innocent Iranians would die in the retaliatory events which would surely follow.

With a crazy president like they have in Iran she shouldn't wonder why, what's wrong with her anyway. Doesn't she understand that he hates the Jews and, the Americans and would use it in the minute, had a way to deliver it. Yes we both have a bomb and, the means to deliver it so, it would be better for her to stay in America and hope she can stay here as a citizen before her crazy president starts a war with someone.

We would not be able to exert political force on them if they have the bomb. this is why N korea does whatever it wants, this is why china does whatever it wants. When you have the bomb you break free of the US sphere of power. Its almost like the matrix, once you awake the machines no longer have any control over you.

Israel are scared they are gonna give a device to a terrorist organisation and then plant it somewhere in Tel Aviv. They will then claim it is nothing to do with them so no one will have legal justification to retaliate against them.

They are wrong however. As soon as they use it Iran will be wiped off the face of the map. Rightly or wrongly.
