For example, do they actually take them down or do they cover them with something?

They have to at least do something with the wooden coasters.

So the moisture with the snow doesn't rot the wood.

I asked the wood question because since cedar point is located near a large body of water, the snow storms tend to be worse than locations not near large bodies of water.

They do maintenance, major refurbishments on those that need it. The wooden coasters are going to be treated to preserve the wood and after the thaw they will give them a good look and replace any wood that needs it. Wood holds up pretty well if its treated properly, look at all the old buildings and houses that are over 100 year old. A seasonal park that closes part of the year has some advantages over a year round park, they can do all the work on the attractions during the off season so all the attractions are open during the summer when the parks are crwded.

The structures are built to withstand the elements. The wood has been pressure-treated, so not only have they been treated to withstand the pressure of 2-ton trains running at high speeds, it has also been treated all the way down to prevent termites. The worse thing water will do to the wood is accelerate the aging process.

Of course they don't take the coasters down. They took months to construct in the first place! You don't build a permanent coaster in the outdoors that need to be removed or covered to preserve them because of weather. If Cedar Point started tearing down all their coasters right now only to rebuild them, they wouldn't open next year.

However, rehab is done on the trains; they are torn down and rebuilt. It's a really great, thorough way to inspect them after they've run non-stop for most of the year, year after year.

and I do know as far as the cars for the coasters are concerned, there is off-site storage, as well as several buildings in the park that they use.
