Got a few answers from people that obviously know next to nothing about the current state of the Royals franchise. I give them a 20% chance to make the playoffs at sometime in the next 3 years. Contrary to some people's belief they have some great young talent on the team in Gordon, Teahan, DeJesus, Butler, Smith and Gload that will all be on the team for the next 3 years because they're all (except DeJesus) under contract for that long. Dayton Moore isn't the same douchebag that was running the show when we traded off all the great outfield talent we had for 3 beans. Anyways, if they don't resign Sweeney for next year, I think they need to look for a veteran left fielder or DH (assuming Butler can get good enough with the glove to play 1st on a daily basis) to help Grudz with the veteran leadership in the clubhouse that a playoff caliber team needs. As far as managers to make all the pieces of the puzzle git together, I like either Joe Girardi - though I read he doesn't really want to manage a work in progress - or Terry Pendleton. I agree with the other guy that Frank White (or George Brett - some in KC have been mentioning his name) isn't the answer.

I think they need a young manager that will connect well with the young talent. In this day and age the playoffs are not unthinkable, look at the Tigers going from 100 losses to the World Series in two years. I think they may need to spend wisely which they seem to have done somewhat since the new GM took over and have to retain some of their talent, I would say they are a 50-50 shot in the next three years....just like most of the rest of the teams. They have young talent they just need a few veterans to staple it all together.

A young club that seems to be moving in the right direction, but they have Cleveland and Detroit to make a huge leap towards and - importantly - they have to retain this young nucleus of talent. By 2010, I am sure the hope is the club will be poised to make a solid run for the division crown.
I have felt for years that former Yankee great Chris Chambliss deserved a shot at managing at the big league level, though Omaha manager Mike Jirschele has spent five years with that club and is a natural to move into the top slot.

They stand an EXCELLENT chance in 2 years... there is a fine nucleus of young talent both offensively and on the mound, with a few in the minors that aren't quite ready. They need a power hitter (preferably a left-hand hitter) and one pitcher to complement Meche, Bannister, and Grienke/Soria to be set for a playoff run. I would like to see them get Joe Girardi, Larry Bowa, or Davey Johnson as managaer (Phil Garner would be a good choice too, but I don't think Frank White is the answer now).

No. They won't pass the Phillies or Braves. The Phillies are the best team in baseball. The Braves are another good team with a good rotation when Jurrjens and Hanson are healthy. And think what they could do when Heyward is hitting the ball, and when Uggla is hitting better. It's a tough division, but I see the Phillies and Braves on top for quite a while.

I don't know about a manager, anyone plugged into that team should be able to do something, retaining any of the talent they have this year for two more years will not happen, so I say no playoffs for the Royals.

0%. They would have to move to the National Leauge Central to even think about having a chance of making the playoffs in the next 10 years.

They have lots of young talent. I would not be surprised to see them at least make a run at it.

-10% they just don't really have any talent at all, young or old. there best players are players that a lot of people have never even heard of. i dont think changing managers would help, because the bottom line is they dont have much talent.
