Following concerns by courtiers at Winter Palace that he was having too much influence over Tsarina Alexandra and her children,in family matters;Prince Yusoupov and at least three others invited Grigori Rasputin,a Siberian monk of gypsy origins,to the Winter palace for "an informal drink and discussion" about his future role. After duping him into drinking vodka, laced wtih poison-possibly cyanide-(which failed to work,as the dose was too weak),he was shot and staggered outside to escape, where he was clubbed to death with a metal fence post.Still barely alive, his body was dumped into the River Neva, and Rasputin either drowned,or froze to death. His body was found a few days later.

The life and death of Grigory Rasputin has long held interest for me. If I were to wager a guess, as far as the shooting and the stabbing, the adrenaline in the human body can overcome quite a lot. And Rasputin was a big, big man. He did not go gently into that good night. Regarding the cyanide, since he was a notorious drunk, couldn't it be possible that his liver was so damaged to the point where it affected the time in which the cyanide should have taken effect? And was it authentic cyanide to begin with? Also, I must point out the general ineptitude of the assasins. Yusupov should have had a better plan. I would also be interested to know if your teacher has had you discuss the starets' reported healing abilities with regard to Tsarevich Alexei, and the influence he had over the last Tsar and Tsarina.

Rasputin was enormously strong man, both physically and emotionally. "Knyaz" Felix Yusupov invited him to his home to kill him. Rasputin liked Yusupov's wife, Irina. So, he came too see her. Yusupov put poison into his food or wine. He was still alive. Then he was shot several times. Still alive, he was thrown into the icy river. It is the history of Rasputin's death. The date is December 29, 1916.
