poetry; imagery fashioned through words borne on the wings of angels to heady heights unfathomable to mediocrity and the bemused lowly critic?

My friend, you generally have two schools of thought where verse is applied:

The most common is populist poetry. In that world just about anyone who can rhyme several words will call themselves a poet and ask others to approve of their poetry. More often that not the poetry is not really very good and not very imaginative. But I fully understand the motivations behind writing and sharing such poetry. People going through troubling events in their lives find relief in expressing their emotions in words and many feel comfort in reading how others are going through the same problems in life.

The second class of poetry consists primarily of artists of words, writers who spend a great deal of their life acquiring a heightened vocabulary, who express themselves with often innovative and original imagery. These poets aren't mentally lazy like populist poets tend to be and these poets will search endlessly for the right words to use until they stress out and them they will write and re-write their verse until it becomes a verbal canvas filled with the beauty of what language can be. They are driven to make poetry what it could become and should become: an art form into itself.

But don't be a snob. Both classes of poetry and both types of verse writers have their rightful place in life.

Just write the damn stuff and enjoy it, accept helpful criticism for what it is and try to ignore the unhelpful and silly criticism the best advice as already been given Rewrite, rewrite and rewrite again and then take out any unnecessary words. but most of all enjoy writing.

I think that you belong to the second class of poetry stated by Dr Watson. I do too,and this is exactly how I write my books in English-American. My mother tongue is French.
Bien amicalement.

What are you on about you pathetic ****. Good poetry and even bad poetry are meant to be enjoyed; to move you emotionally, to make you laugh, to make you cry or to make you think. They're not to be psychoanalysed by pseudo-intellectual 'dong-heads'. Just enjoy them and shut-up.
