One that comes to mind is Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone

:)

Andrew Wood does create a case of the "what ifs". MLB's vibe was very different than Pearl Jam's, and it's one that I think may have been more commercially popular. And Wood was made for the spotlight.

I also wonder what Alice In Chains would be like if Layne Staley was still here.

The "what-if" for Andrew Wood looms large. The whole glam vibe set them apart from the rest of Seattle. Another one I was thinking about was another 90's band that would have to be one of the saddest stories I have heard in a long time.

For Squirrels - Example

This group released their major label debut right after an auto accident that killed their lead singer Jack Vigliatura, bass player Bill White and their tour manager. They weren't a bad group, but their song Mighty K.C. was just too depressing to listen to when you knew the story. Talk about horrible timing.

Mother Love Bone would have been my first "what if" as well. I'm pretty sure that Randy Rhoads would be on about the same status of some one like George Lynch now had he lived. He'd be seen as a great guitarist... but he'd still be a metal guy and not get the props he deserved.

I meant to add SRV: He'd only be the best guitarist alive today.

Out of all the rest, I think they had pretty much maxed out their potential when they passed.

I really wonder how Pink Floyd would have been if Syd Barrett hadn't left. Would Pink Floyd ever have moved on from pyshcedelia to progressive? And if Syd didn't leave and remained the leader, would David Gilmour have stayed in the band, and contributed musically, or just been a hired guitarist? If Syd was the lyricist, and not Roger Waters... wouldn't eveything be so different?

I wish Alice In Chains could have kept going with a fully healthy Layne Staley. Wonder what would've happened.

Nirvana would probably have continued to make a difference had Cobain not died. Sublime, Blind Melon, and Alice In Chains are a few more.

The Doors - what if Jim Morrison hadn't died. Do you think they would be as revered as they are today?
