Yes I have been. Add to that, the invites weren't sent out until the week of the wedding. It was a Mormon wedding so no one was allowed to attend the ceremony even if they wanted to. The couple had actually invited close to 200 people, but because it was reception-only they were lucky to have 25 attend. People talked about it for months and years after about how rude the couple was. Looking back now, I totally agree they were rude (the bride went out of her way to be rude the entire weekend but that's another topic) and I would never attend anything like that again. I didn't even enjoy it when it happened. I still stand by my belief, based on my personal experience, as well as what is generally considered rude vs polite by other people whose opinions do matter to me, that a reception-only invite is one of the rudest things a couple can do. Why even bother sending the invite if the guest isn't good enough to attend the ceremony as well? The couple may think that they aren't hurting anyone and that if anyone does object, they'll say something. No one who has any inkling of good manners will ever mention anything to the hosts themselves since that is rude as well. Etiquette is there for a reason and it is to prevent awkward social situations. That is why countless people are offended when others say that "etiquette doesn't matter anymore because it's outdated and doesn't fit the current society". No it's not outdated. I find it even more bizarre that folks have the audacity to change the etiquette books in the first place. Something can't be rude for decades on end and then all of a sudden acceptable overnight. It doesn't work that way. I don't buy the line about "the venue isn't big enough so we can only invite x number of people". Then you need to find a different venue. Or the current trend that seems to be so popular here at Y!A that I have yet to see in real life: "The wedding isn't the same as the ceremony." Then what is it? People in this day and age are just lazy and don't care about anything or anyone but themselves.
