why is it everytime there is a problem, or people think there is a problem we should tax it? taxation is choking people alive, it doesn't solve problems and makes people resentful it stifles our freedoms and makes it cost more just to live, now why do that? taxation onhigh calorie food is only a foot in the door to tax everything including vegetables..
I am guessing people say tax this or that because they don't do this or that, they don't think about the what the issue really is about or the principles involved or think about the wide implications of such taxation and how it leads to furthur and furthur taxation that will eventually hit ones who who desire taxation as a form of forced compliance on what we think people (who are not harming us) should or should not be allowed to do.
Is this what they mean by dumbing down america? what kind of freedom is that? and has anyone ever considered that using high cost of health care or whatever is just an excuse to get people to back up more taxation (in essence getting people to tighten the noose around their necks themselves thus commiting slow suicide without even being aware of it?)
Does anyone honestly think the tax money (such as for cigerettes) actually is used to pay for health care caused by said smoking? do you all really want to put more money into the pockets of greedy bankers?
RRRRR.

Since only about 20% of adults smoke taxing cigarettes is a way it increase revenue without annoying 80% of the voters. Extra taxes on unhealthy things that a high percentage of the population indulges in, will annoy too many people, but since I am a smoker and rarely eat fast food I am in favor taxing fast foods and Twinkies etc instead of cigarettes.

While eating fast food does have negative consequences, it also has a positive consequence. Hard as it may be to accept, fast food does provide sufficient nutrition to support life, although not well. Cigarettes, on the other hand, have no beneficial impact. When used properly, all they do is addict the user and harm them and others who breathe the smoke. There is no "At least they..." that you can attach to cigarettes. So, while both things may increase health care and insurance costs, only one of them does nothing else.

The state I live in already taxes restaurant food. The same thing purchased in a supermarket is not taxed but restaurants are not a necessity so the food is taxable.

Well, what's interesting is that the government has very little stake in the cost of insurance. What they do have a stake in is the cost of medical care for the poor and the elderly. As a result, they would feel more than justified to tax such things at a higher rate than a tofu burger.
Now, knowing that, what do you think will happen when the Socialist Party gets their candidate elected president? Hillary comes in and she has a Socialist congress and they pass their Socialized Health Care scheme. They'll tax a minority of us up to the eyeballs to pay for substandard care for everyone and THEN they'll start looking for things to either apply an additional tax to or to ban outright because of it's affects on the cost of medical care. And they'll feel justified in doing so because THEY are paying for it...well, folks like ME are paying for it, but the government has always considered MY money to be theirs.
Regardless. Be ready to sacrifice your freedoms, privacy and bodies to your government Mommy. Momma Hillary will be telling you to eat your vegetables and no, you can't have that "Royale with cheese".

i heard they're already imposing a "fat tax" in britain on certain high cal, high trans fat foods to curb people from consuming them. i think it's kind of ridiculous because people will buy it anyways, just like they'll buy their smokes even though they cost more than a gallon of gas. i mean, if people want to eat themselves to death, then i say let them. i think instead of taxing "bad" foods, they should educate the public thoroughly on what goes into these foods, where they come from, and the short and long term health risks involved. that alone may curb peoples' consumption of them.

For your answer: NO! they tax every thing. Your pay then any and everything that you buy. Like if you buy a house and you pay it off you still have got to pay tax on it and if you don`t they take it.You never own it because you have to pay after you pay if you see what i mean.So no! Some body wants a bigger pay check that`s all.You will have no say in anything if you give them enough time.Where or when do you get to make up your own mine, soon you will not be.You will see.

If so, they should tax relationships and most jobs.
The things in my life that have caused me to ignore my health, be stressed, stop exercising, become depressed, eat the wrong foods have always been these 2 things.
If I lived alone in the woods, I would want to live forever. I was always healthy before I starting serious dating and working in the software industry.

they already tax Big mac, and the Whopper, and even those delicious Ice Cream sundaes. It's called a sales tax.
But I agree with your point.
H B, I'm not aware of a state or county that taxes consumable products, unless they are purchased in a restaurant.
