Prop your ankle up and stay off of it as much as you can. Also, put an ice pack on it. How long it takes to heal really depends on how bad the sprain is and how good you are about staying off of it.

First of all you need to put ice on it, but only for 20 min at a time or you get the reverse effect. Next put it up on another chair with a pillow under it. This will give it support and keep the pressure off of it. Wrap it with an ace wrap to give it support and keep from further injuring it when you have to be up and moving. Lastly try some white willow bark it works great for the pain and takes out inflammation naturally. Get well soon.

ice, stay off it and keep it elevated. You can apply heat this evening. If it doesnt go down in a day or so you really need to see a doctor. It could be more than a sprain.
