The witch trials took place in a town called Salem. It's a popular town name, probably because it echoes the Hebrew word for peace and the capital of Israel, JeruSalem. The capital of Oregon is called Salem. Salem is also part of the name of a North Carolina tobacco town, whence the Salem brand of cigarettes.

Somebody might say there is a connection between Salem MA, of witch trial fame, and the town 'Salem's Lot' in the Stephen King book of the same name. But that's about it.

The city? Did they name the city Salem because of it? It was already called Salem. That's why they call it the Salem witch trials.

If that's what you're even talking about. You should be more clear...

They Didnt. They named the Salem Witch Trials after the town Salem. (ie, the town came first). There were witch trial happening in the town, so they named it the salem witch trials.

Salem, Massachusetts is still there. They have exhibits about the trials, and you can see some of the landmarks.
