My Patio door came off runners at new house last night, managed to get it back on and lock it so it is secure. However on closer inspection in daylight, door that slides is rotten in bottom right hand corner (Outside) and looks like this is affecting running along track. Can this be sorted by a joiner by replacing rotten wood. Or is it a knacker job. I really cannot afford to replace whole door as loads of jobs need done around house (bahroom kitchen etc)

I think what caused it (wood to rot)was toilet overflow was leaking due to cistern problem and water was splashing onto that area - obviously this was easliy rectified but previous owner was clearly not capable of any logicical thought.

a handyman would remove the door, unscrew the runner, cut out the rotten wood, cut in new door ( glused and screwed, prime it, replace the runner, ahng the door, then paint with undercoat and 2 top coats ( or stain or whatever you've got )

Probably get charged a day - £100

You might be best doing the painting yourself to try and save a bit of cash - let the handyman get as far as the door working again on a new wooden sill

Sort out your patio door first ,simply from a security point of view.
Strange that you seem to have patio doors made from timber though ?
Internal work is best left to the winter anyway just from a practical point,i.e. rain/snow/light etc.

sure you can replace the rotted wood ,be sure to eliminate what has caused the wood to rot in the first place ,maybe water collecting in the bottom right corner? good luck with your new home!

whilst the door is easily repaired by a competant joiner ..you will not get a good one at only £100 a day .. but a good joiner will probably not take all day to do it
