The Manchurian Candidate - 1962 movie is man vs. Communist party; 2004 movie is man vs. a global corporation
1984 or Fahrenheit 451 - loss of personal freedom in a repressive society
Soylent Green - loss of food supply leads to manufactured "food" - what is the food made of?
Koyaanisqatsi - no dialogue, just visuals set to music of man modifying the planet - makes you think, "what are we doing???"
An Inconvenient Truth - documentary about global warming
The Thin Blue Line - documentary about an actual criminal case - police manipulate evidence because they want a suspect in the murder of a fellow officer
I've enjoyed all of these movies - they're some of the best movies period, not just ones about issues. There are probably more - these are just ones I thought of right away.

American History X
This is about the changing of a family based on the choices of one member. Edward Norton plays a skin head who goes to jail for a racial killing. Once out he changes his ways and tries to live his life right but finds that his brother is following in his footsteps. In the end his brother decides he wants to live his life without racial hatred. His soul is saved but his life is cut short because he was already to far gone into the skinhead lifestyle. A must see movie!!!!
Patton
War movie (obviously) about Sargent George Patton and his commands during World War II. "Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." -- Patton, in the opening line of the film.
Schindler's List
Excellent recollection of a man and his factory during the holocaust. Schindler owned a factor where he kept Jews on his payroll to keep them from having to go to concentration camps.
Full Metal Jacket
Legendary director Stanley Kubrick (The Shining, A Clockwork Orange) tells the story of young Marine recruits, from boot camp to the battlefields of Vietnam in one of the best war epics of all time!
All of these movies you can look up on the Internet and get a better feel for what they were about. They are all classics as far as cinematography is concerned.
