First and foremost you have to ask yourself why you want to be a psychologist. Your motivation for joining the helping field is very important because people will come to you with some very serious issues. A mental health professional has to be very self aware so that their issues do not get in-twined with the clients (this is called counter transference). I've heard many professionals state that they feel good for helping others, that can be dangerous because their motivation is for themselves not the client. I do suggest that anyone entering this field do their own therapy.
Secondly to become a Psychologist takes quite a bit of schooling. I have a Masters in counseling and for a PsyD (Doctorate in Psychology) I would have to go back to school for another three years. That would include an internship and a dissertation. A big commitment.
One last suggestion. Their are many alternative therapies such as Art Therapy that might incorporate both your talents. To be an Art Therapist requires a Masters degree.
Good luck, whatever you decide. It's important to make a good wage but even more important to love what you do.
